Every day, tens of thousands of tourists arrive by different modes of transport on the American continent to see the sights of the United States with their own eyes. They are very diverse and concern not only the culture of European settlers, ancient places of Indian culture and the ruins of the Aztecs, but also modern historical monuments that relate to the formation of the state. The most interesting sights located in major cities of America will be discussed in the article.

Statue of Liberty

The undisputed main symbol of America is the Statue of Liberty (the full name is Liberty Enlightening the World). One of New York's most popular attractions in the United States, it has captivated travelers from all over the world for over a hundred years. The iconic monument in New York was actually given to the United States as a gift from France in honor of the centenary of American independence.

The Statue of Liberty has dominated New York Harbor since 1886 and was named an American National Monument in 1924. It is located on Liberty Island, 3 kilometers from the southern tip of Manhattan. The statue weighs 125 tons, and the height from the ground to the end of the torch is 93 meters. The sight of the Statue of Liberty from the tips of her crown to the broken shackles at her feet is an unforgettable sight.

Yellowstone National Park

Americans are proud of their Yellowstone National Park and consider it one of the main attractions of the United States. It is located high in the mountains, on the watershed of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The park occupies most of the state of Wyoming (91% of the park). The rest of the park lies in two other US states - Montana (7.6%) and Idaho (1.4%). Its total area is 898 thousand hectares.

The National Park was established back in 1872 and is therefore one of the oldest in the world. It is popular among tourists, mainly due to its unusual nature. It is located on a geological fault, is a plateau of an ancient supervolcano, and on its huge frying pan there are hot springs, bubbling mud pits, canyons, waterfalls and erosive lava flows.

There are about a hundred waterfalls and many hot volcanic geysers in the park. This volcanic activity is the remnant of a huge volcanic eruption that took place here about 640,000 years ago. It formed a huge bowl about 65 kilometers wide. This bowl occupies a large part of the park.

Niagara Falls

One of the wonders of the world - Niagara Falls, is located on the border of the USA and Canada. It is the second largest waterfall in the world after Victoria Falls in South Africa. Tourists who come to Niagara Falls will agree that the US attractions surrounding the falls are plentiful. These are the Niagara Butterfly Parks Preserve (1996) to the north, Rainbow Bridge (1941), adjacent Rainbow Gardens.

The year-round Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort features a 1,500-seat theater. Since 2011, the Falseview tourist area has been operating an exhibition hall, ballroom, conference hall and theater with 1,000 seats, which is designed to attract national and international conferences, trade shows and extend the traditional tourist season from May-September.

Empire State Building

Once upon a time, viewing platforms on many of New York's iconic skyscrapers, such as the Whitetoun Building or the Chrysler Building, gave viewers a bird's eye view of the city. However, over time, many of them closed, leaving New York with four skyscrapers from which you could see the city's neighborhoods.

Most Iconica skyscraper in New York - a US landmark (photo below), is also a building with the most popular observation decks. On the 86th and 102nd floors, the observation decks of the Empire State Building are open to the public. They offer great views of Midtown, Central Park and more.

The Empire State Building makes an indelible impression on the minds of all who have stood on top of this building. True, in order to get to the observation deck, you will have to stand in a huge queue, but nevertheless, almost every guest of Manhattan tries to get to any of the skyscraper sites. The Empire State Building held its status as the tallest building in the world until the construction of the first tower of the World Trade Center in 1972.

New York Central Park

The most iconic landmark in the United States, New York City's Central Park is a favorite park for residents and visitors alike. It is located in the heart of Manhattan, between 59th and 110th avenues. Throughout its length of almost 2 km and an area of 341 hectares, there are large open meadows, parks, gardens, fields with balls, a magnificent embankment, a lake, a large reservoir and numerous ponds and streams. It also contains historical buildings, bridges and terraces, sculptures, restaurants, a theatre, a carousel, an ice rink, a zoo… even a castle.

More than 42 million people visit the park every year. They are provided with opportunities for outdoor recreation, including walking, running, cycling, skating (on pavement and ice), horseback riding, team sports, tennis,swimming, yoga, volleyball, bird watching and fishing. The park also houses one of the best art museums in the world. The park has enough space for music festivals, concerts, theater performances.

Bridges of New York

From the seaport of South Street (New York) a view (below in the photo) of the sights of the United States with the names of the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges opens. The Brooklyn Bridge, completed in 1883, was declared an architectural marvel and is still a hallmark of New York City. For the first time, he connected two eminent New York districts - Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Several years after the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge, the city realized the need to build a second bridge across the East River to relieve the overburdened Brooklyn Bridge. The Williamsburg Bridge connects Doing Street on the east side of Manhattan and Williamsburg Street in Brooklyn. This new connection between the districts had a significant impact on the development of the city.

The Manhattan Bridge was the last of three suspension bridges built across the lower East River. Its construction was completed in 1909. The Manhattan Bridge connects Dumbo to Chinatown's Manhattan neighborhood.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

One of the most famous sights of Los Angeles is Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, which annually attracts the attention of millions of people. The bridge is popular not only among tourists, but also among the creators of movies and TV shows. For a long time, the bridge held the palm, being considered the largest suspension bridge on the planet.

Once it was a fort, which later turned into a military prison, and then into a federal prison for especially dangerous criminals. The island has been a National Historic Landmark since 1986.

Philadelphia
