Vorobyovy Gory metro station is actually one of the most popular stations in the capital. Why? There are many reasons for such an assertion. The station was opened on January 12, 1959. According to the original project, the station was supposed to be built under the Moskva River, but in order to reduce the cost of construction, the project was changed and the metro line began to be built directly on the Luzhnetsky metro bridge, built, by the way, in 1958.

A station was placed on the lower tier of the metro bridge, and a road was made on the upper tier. During the design and construction of the bridge, some technological and structural errors were made. All the structures of the platform, the substructure of the track and the bridge were one, so they experienced huge dynamic loads due to the constant braking and acceleration of trains.

Reinforced concrete poles were installed instead of metal poles to reduce cash costs. Since the construction was carried out in winter, s alt was added to the concrete to reduce the freezing point of water. This caused intense corrosion of the metal structure. Due to poor-quality waterproofing, the station was constantly flooded in the spring.

After the flooding in the summer of 1959, the almost abandoned Vorobyovy Gory metro station was in a state of decline for about a year. In the summer of 1960, the ceiling began to collapse, and dural sheets of the cornice began to fall from a height of four meters. Since 1986, trains have moved only along bypass bridges built on both sides of the main one. The upper tier functioned for quite a long time due to the lack of a bypass highway. The reconstruction of the station, it should be noted, took a very long time due to poor financial supply during the restructuring of the late 1980s and into the 1990s. According to official data, the reconstruction of the station lasted a long 19 years, but active construction work was carried out only from 1999 to approximately 2002.

Only on December 14, 2002, the station was reopened. On May 12, 1999, it was renamed in honor of the historical district of the same name, until that time it was called differently: "Lenin Mountains".

Today, the station has two vestibules. The northern one is equipped with an escalator; it goes to the Luzhnetskaya embankment and the Luzhniki sports complex. The lower hall of the southern vestibule overlooks Vorobyovskaya embankment, the upper hall faces the Sparrow Hills nature reserve.

The station features a modern design. The walls of the corridors and the buttresses of the bridge that run through the hall are lined with green and white marble. The floor is covered with gray granite. Transparent track walls make it possible to admire a beautiful view of the Moscow River.
