The city of St. Petersburg is traditionally famous for its diverse landscape park areas. They are located both in the city itself and in its immediate historically famous surroundings. Murinsky Park in the Kalininsky District is one of the youngest objects of its kind. In fact, it is in the process of formation. The intention to build a park in this place was first proclaimed by the city authorities back in the eighties of the last century. But real work on the arrangement of the park area in the floodplain of the Murinsky stream began twenty years later.

What is Murinsky Park today

The territory of the park is significant, totaling 115 hectares. There are not so many vast green areas in this part of the city. This circumstance makes it a natural recreational area for residents of the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg. In terms of composition, Murinsky Park is a landscape park.the design of the natural floodplain of the Murinsky stream, which is a tributary of the Okhta. In the process of arranging the park area, a significant amount of land reclamation work has been carried out. A significant problem is the ecological state of the Murinsky stream itself, into which polluted effluents from large areas merge uncontrollably. Nevertheless, the administration manages to maintain cleanliness in the park at an acceptable level. Its territory is suitable for both walks and active recreation.

In 2009, Murinsky Park acquired several tracks for cyclocross. The bike paths are laid out taking into account the terrain, they vary both in length and complexity. There are some pretty steep ascents and descents. Cycling enthusiasts have the opportunity to assess the quality of these trails at any time. To do this, it is enough for them to come to Murinsky Park. Bicycle rental is organized on site and the price level is quite reasonable. The park is still being formed and developed. In general, this natural landscape complex has good prospects for becoming a favorite vacation spot for residents of the northern part of St. Petersburg in the near future.

Concept art project

The "Sculpture Garden" is one of the most interesting projects that Murinsky Park is famous for. Photos of these sculptural objects were repeatedly published in periodicals devoted to the problems of urban planning and landscape design as an example of the correctplacement of large sculptural forms in a natural environment. At the origins of this project back in 1985 was the famous Leningrad sculptor Alexander Chernitsky. Unfortunately, of the six granite works of the master, only four have survived to this day. But the very idea of an open-air sculpture garden has enormous potential for development. There are many sculpture workshops in St. Petersburg, and the craftsmen who work in them need exhibition space for their works. And Murinsky Park is a suitable platform for this. Similar projects have been successfully implemented in many European cities.
