Station "Brest-Central" - a strategic railway junction and landmark of the city

Brest is located in the south-west of Belarus, on the border with Poland. It was this hero city that was the first to take the blow of the Nazi army in 1941. Subsequently, the Brest Fortress received the title of "hero", as a sign of memory and boundless respect for all those who died on its territory, and became a cult memorial site known throughout the former Soviet Union.

Brest is a very attractive place for tourists. Getting to the city will not be difficult, because Brest is a major railway junction. From the station "Brest-Central" you can easily go to Europe, as well as to Russia or Ukraine. History of the station

The station was built in the 19th century under Tsar Alexander. The station building resembled a fortress and was considered one of the largest and most beautiful in the then Russian Empire. The railway station was twice subjected to significant damage. For the first time during the First World War, the station suffered especially hard damage and was restored by 1929. The second time, during the Great Patriotic War, the building was partially destroyed. Under the personal control of Stalin, the station was restored to its former power and strength in the post-war years. During the 20th century, the station was completed and reconstructed. The last large-scale reconstruction was carried out in 2008-2014.

The railway station "Brest-Central" is included in the list of UNESCO monuments and is an architectural monument of Belarus. In 2016, it celebrated its 130th anniversary. Changes after reconstruction

In 2014, the reconstruction of the Brest railway station was completed. The station was improved, comfort increased, the level of equipment and service approached the European one. On the main routes, tactile tiles were laid for the visually impaired, the tiles on the sidewalks, old benches, fences, lampposts were replaced.

All signs with information, as well as the board with the timetable of the "Brest-Central" trains, are posted in English and Belarusian. Ticket offices have been updated. There is an English-speaking ticket office in the international box office.

There are numerous benches for rest and various cultural compositions from green spaces and small fountains on the forecourt. Free car parking is available nearby.

The station building itself has also been restored and renovated. Modern windows and sliding doors have been installed. The station is equipped with a video surveillance system and automatic lighting. The information boards broadcast the schedule of Brest-Central.

What to see?

Not far from the station iscity park, from which a stone's throw to the fortress. It is also easy to get from the station to the fortress by public transport or taxi. The Park of Culture and Leisure offers visitors entertainment on attractions, services of a shooting gallery, cafes, and playrooms for children. In the fortress, in addition to the Memorial complex itself, you can visit:

• military museum;
• Berestye Historical Museum;
• The Museum of Steam Locomotives, located next to the fortress.

In the immediate vicinity of the station is the city center with the famous pedestrian street Sovetskaya. There are many cozy cafes and bars where you can have a bite to eat and relax. If you wish, you can also visit the nearby embankment and take a boat trip.
