North Carolina is a US state. It is located in the eastern region of the country. The state capital is Raleigh. The largest cities in North Carolina are Fayetteville, Greensboro, Durham, and Charlotte. The state has a population of 9.6 million. The area of the occupied territory is 139,509 square kilometers.

The state borders Virginia to the north and Georgia and South Carolina to the south. To the west is Tennessee. The status of the twelfth state of America, North Carolina was awarded in 1789.

Geography
