The Yucatan Peninsula is a huge porous sponge, the stone body of which is crossed by thousands of caves. Long ago, these catacombs were dry, but after a meteorite fall 65 million years ago, the surface sank and was flooded with rain and sea water. The formed stalactites were conserved and now they are a unique sight, a natural phenomenon. The Yucatan Peninsula is also the birthplace of the legendary Mayan tribe.
