Revolution Square… Probably, there is a place with the same name, if not in every, then in many cities of the former USSR. This name was very significant for the now collapsed huge country. It was once fashionable for them to name squares, squares, streets and bridges.
Revolution Square in Moscow. Let's delve into history
We can safely say that Revolution Square is located in the very center of the capital.
What else is she famous for? First of all, we note the fact that today it is in this place that two important tourist sites of the capital are united - Manezhnaya and Theater Square.
Initially, it was in this place that the bed of the shallow but full-flowing river Neglinka passed, but at the very beginning of the 16th century it was decided to dam the source by installing mills and building shops everywhere. Gradually, Kitay-gorod was formed, in order to strengthen it from the conquering Swedes, for several years it was necessary to install earthen ramparts.
At that time, a small square was crowned with the Resurrection Gate, in honor of which it, in the end, received its title.
In the 19th century, the river was enclosed in a collector, the need for strengthening disappeared, it was demolished, a spacious square was formed in this place, to the west of which the Alexander Garden was laid out almost immediately.
Revolution Square got its current name in 1918. It was then that it was renamed in honor of the sensational October events.
Revolution Square. Traditions and signs
Every person wants only bright and joyful events to happen to him. Perhaps that is why we, even as adults and accomplished, continue to believe in omens. Arriving in foreign cities or wandering through the streets of our own, we, without noticing it ourselves, touch the bas-relief, rub the heel of the saint, hold on to the feather of the saint, touch the bird's beak, trying to attract good luck.
There are also many similar places in the capital. And with one of them, by the way, the metro station "Revolution Square" is directly connected.
Of the rather large number of sculptures, the most popular is the dog sitting quietly at the feet of the border guard. Her nose (although some say it's a paw) brings success to anyone who touches it. Students tend to be the most superstitious, and during the summer and winter sessions, there is sometimes a real queue of people who want to pet an animal.
But not everything is so simple. The fact is that there are four dogs in the bas-relief, as well as border guards, and it is difficult to determine which animal is capable of fulfilling desires. That's why, apparently, they shine andnoses, and paws on all four.
