Metro in Minsk is a popular and convenient mode of transport. Underground highways duplicate the main transport flows on the surface, unloading the city during peak hours.
Modern and perspective scheme of the Minsk Metro
There are 25 stations in the subway of the Belarusian capital. The Minsk Metro consists of two operating lines (Moskovskaya and Avtozavodskaya). Another one coming soon.
In 2014, the subway cars were decorated with the scheme of the Minsk Metro, which for the first time appeared on the third line, which has not yet been put into operation. At the same time, the names of the stations began to be announced in the cars not only in Belarusian, but also in English. All innovations were timed to coincide with the Ice Hockey World Championship held in Minsk.
The scheme of the Minsk metro will change more than once. The city authorities are planning to build and launch the fourth metro line in the future. A network of underground highways should connect the city center with large microdistricts. Well, the nearest plans are the launch of the first stations of the third line in 2019.
Minsk metro operating hours
Stations open at 5:30 am, first trainleaves at 5:33. The interval between trains varies from 1.5 to 9 minutes at different times of the day.
The doors to the entrance are closed at one in the morning. Three minutes later, the last train leaves, carrying passengers who managed to get on the platforms.
Fare fare
Travel in the subway is paid with special tokens. The transition from one line of the Minsk metro to another is free.
One token in the Minsk metro costs 60 Belarusian kopecks (that's about 0.3 dollars or 18 Russian rubles). They are plastic, with a metal element inside. You can buy them at the box office at each station. In the same place, on occasion, it makes sense to stock up on coupons for ground transport.
Minsk transport operates a system of electronic travel cards, and instead of scattering tokens, it is proposed to record the required number of trips on a contactless smart card. Those who use the subway often and take more than 10 trips at a time will get a discount. It is also possible to pay for the trip via SMS.
If you need to withdraw cash, there is a map of the Minsk metro in the halls indicating which stations have ATMs.
