Not far from Anapa there is a wonderful village of Sukko. Its main and most famous attraction is the Lion's Head Castle. This replica of a medieval fortress was built in a valley near a picturesque mountain lake, where a very rare relic juniper grows.
Description
The Lion's Head Castle in Sukko is life-sized. It is 45 meters wide and 100 meters long. The materials used in the construction of the fortress, as well as its interior decoration, create a unique atmosphere that takes guests back to the Middle Ages. The castle complex itself consists of:
- arenas (rally grounds), designed for equestrian knightly battles;
- of the courtyard, where the museum of medieval instruments of torture is located;
- small indoor arena, which serves for performances in the cold season;
- outer courtyard, which housed a tavern, pottery, shooting range, forge and several souvenir shops.
On the photo of the castle "Lion's head" in Sukkoit is clearly seen that the main part of the building is occupied by the stadium, the dimensions of which are 60 x 20 meters. Covered stands are organized along its perimeter, accommodating 1200 guests at once. The stadium is fenced with high walls, and twelve-meter towers rise at their corners. It is worth noting that real medieval forts had a similar design.
There are gates on all sides of the stadium. Two of them are official, and two more are intended for the entrance and exit of guests. The courtyard is a paved area with a museum of instruments of torture used against people in the troubled times of the medieval inquisitions.
Reviews
The Lion's Head Castle is so interesting that almost everyone who has ever visited it wants to come here again. In addition to the main performance, there are other equally exciting activities. Take, for example, the shooting gallery of Robin Hood. Here everyone has the opportunity to practice archery or crossbow shooting. Attentive and courteous Robin will instruct everyone in detail, teach how to handle weapons and willingly help both adults and young novice shooters. If someone manages to surprise him with unprecedented accuracy, then he will definitely give a gift that you can choose yourself.
There is a functioning forge in the courtyard of the Lion's Head Castle. From under the blows of the hammer, products of extraordinary beauty are born. A skilled craftsman can easily turn leather and metal into beautiful costumes for the performers who take part in the performances. His hands forgereal weapons and knightly armor, as well as original and unique souvenirs. They can be purchased directly from his forge.
Medieval Atmosphere

The success of historical productions largely depends on a carefully selected cast. It is interesting that the participants in the performance practically do not use makeup and do not wear wigs, because the actors look as if they actually live in the Middle Ages. This approach creates a feeling of realism of everything that happens, and guests of the castle can plunge into the atmosphere of bygone years.
