Today I would like to talk about Slavyanskaya Square, which is located in the heart of Moscow.
Location and history of the square
Geographically, Slavyanskaya Square is located between three passages - Kitaygorodsky, Solyansky and Lubyansky.
Modern Square has a relatively recent history. It was formed in 1992 in honor of the opening of the monument to the great Russian enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. That is why the presented place was named after the Slavic script.
Initially, Slavyanskaya Square was called Varvarskaya, in honor of the Church of the Great Martyr Barbara, which has been on this territory since the 15th century. During the reign of Emperor Peter I, this square was the site of the so-called "Brazhny prisons", in which city brawlers anddrunkards.
Today, Slavyanskaya Square in Moscow is one of the main places of rallies, pickets and clashes. In 2005, the first Russian march in national history took place in this place, and in 2007, an ethnic clash between Russian and Caucasian youth took place on the square.
Sights of Slavyanskaya Square
The main cultural assets of the square are considered to be the monument to Cyril and Methodius and the Church of All Saints on Kulishki. Also, when walking around this metropolitan place, on the houses you can see memorial plaques dedicated to the victims of Stalinist repressions. Among them are the names of the engineers Golfer and Chekunov, as well as the economist Renzin.
The capital's business centers with a developed infrastructure are also located on Slavyanskaya Square. This feature attracts many investors who want to have their offices in the heart of the capital.
